And that’s great.
But if you’re building a business, a brand, or a platform… learning and meeting new people is only half the assignment.
Let me insert a mindset shift 👉🏽 Don’t just attend the event. Show up as a journalist.
I explain how AND the benefits to you …keep reading OR listen to the podcast version of this conversation:
Hear me out (because I do this all of the time)…
The next time you go to a conference, networking event, or workshop…don’t just show up as an attendee.
Show up as a journalist.
Yes… a journalist.
Here’s why: Most people are sitting in the room taking notes. But smart business owners are documenting the experience.
It’s simple and strategic:
- Capture short video clips throughout the event
- Share 1–2 key takeaways in real time
- Highlight speakers, moments, or conversations
- Record a quick “day recap” before you leave
Within 24 hours, turn those clips into:
- A short reel
- A LinkedIn post recap
- Instagram or Facebook stories
Now here’s the power move… TAG the host, the event, and speakers.
So when you tag them, one of two things happens:
- They repost your content → You get in front of their audience
- They engage with your post → You increase your reach organically
Guess what? They are always looking for content to repost.
And when they do?
✔️ New people (i.e., potential new customers) discover you
✔️ You position yourself as someone active in your industry
And listen… even if they don’t repost…
You’re still:
→ Building your brand
→ Showing up consistently
→ Creating content without overthinking it
If you’ve ever found yourself holding back from posting, overthinking your visibility, or wondering if people are even paying attention…
You’re not alone.
That’s exactly why my upcoming book collaboration is titled: Permission Granted: From Playing Small to Taking Up Space.
