YouTube will be introducing handles (example: @sharvette) to make it easier for members of the community to find and connect with each other. Your handle will be unique to your channel and will be how people mention you in comments, community posts, and more.
YouTube is gradually rolling out the ability to choose a handle for all channels and you will receive an email and a notification in YouTube Studio when you’re able to choose yours.
In most cases, if you already have a personalized URL for your channel ( example: YouTube.com/Sharvette), they have reserved this for you as your handle ( example: @sharvette).
Why is this kinda a big deal from a branding and marketing standpoint?
Having a personalized URL to direct people to your channel previously required at least 100 subscribers. That requirement is going away!
The old channel URLs ( less than 100 subscribers) and looked something like this: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjTu3XtNHvZiwfOcT85HyAg. This made it hard to tell people how to get to your channel.
YouTube Handles will allow you to have a personalized URL which helps with marketing and branding your YouTube channel.
