5 reasons why your product images are killing your sales

By: TechGotU

So you’ve got a great product; your website is spanking new and you’re blowing off hundreds or thousands of dollars on promotions. But your visitors are not buying! What can possibly be wrong?

9 out of 10 visitors coming to your site from an ad already want to buy from you. They just need to validate their convictions. And this is where you need to nail it. You only have 3 seconds to catch their attention and confirm their hopes or it’s over. Here’s the rundown:

1. The product image on your ad is different from the one on your landing page.
This is one of the silliest mistakes any store owner can make. The image on your ad creative must match the first image on your landing page. Miss this and you create an instant disconnection with your audience. They’ll get lost and click away from your page – lost dollars for you!

2. Poor lighting
Without much talking…compare the two images below and decide which one makes you want to know more about the product. You will quickly know why lighting matters.

3. The background or foreground steals the show
The highlight is your product, not what’s around it. Give the background or foreground too much detail and it will take the attention away from your main goal – selling your product. Keep your backgrounds plain and simple. White or black works best. Mind the shadows, they can be distracting if not kept in check. Here’s a perfect example. I couldn’t figure out whether it was sunglasses or shells for sale!

4. Shots from various angles
You bet before someone pops out their credit card to buy your product, they want to be sure they know what they are getting. Help them decide quickly and confidently by providing sharp, crisp images of the product from different angles. These pictures will validate their imagination of the product (that imagination made them click on your site) and close the sale for you very quickly. Screw this and you might as well stop wasting their time.

5. Unprofessional, pixelated product images
This is an insult to your customers. If you expect them to pay you top dollar for your products then you must know that you NEED to invest in getting high quality pictures. Ask yourself, “if I was a customer, would I buy from this site?” You will be amazed at how quickly you can evaluate your own website with such a simple question! Show your customers respect and walk the talk. Excellence begets excellence.

It doesn’t cost a fortune to take great product pictures. The average smartphone has a very powerful camera and, with the right tools such as a light box or a turntable, you can take very professional looking images that will amaze even you!

I hope today’s blog has helped you rediscover what you already know – that seeing is believing!

Ciao!
